Rumour - PS2 Games Coming to PSN?

Earlier today, I (ed: Read: someone at Kotaku) stumbled upon a post over at the N4G Forums which basically included the picture above which shows that PS2 Games May be coming to The PSN store in the near future….

From what I can gather using my incredibly large brain, Sony may possibly be unveiling this at E3 which isn’t so far off… Even though the picture could quite easily have been Photoshopped, it is starting to seem like an exciting prospect and is also a way to work around the problem of the non-backward compatible PS3s. I guess We will just have to wait and see…

Ed: It’s also nice to know that Metal Gear Solid 2 (ie. not the one where you lie in grass and get shot like a tit) will be available for the very-much-competitive price of £12.99!)

PS3 firmware 2.4 brings long-awaited features…?

It has been heavily rumoured that PS3 owners can hope to see in-game XMB and trophies (Xbox 360-style achievements) in the next firmware update…

At the moment, Sony have only announced that it will be out this summer and have not announced an official release date yet, but “unnamed sources” from Holland say it will be here on the 18th of this month (June).

I will now run through some features we should expect to see in this highly anticipated update:

  • Full In game-XMB
  • Custom In Game Soundtracks
  • Trophies
  • Improved Audio/Video Communication

Videogaming247 Has also acquired some information on how compatible current/old games will be with the new in-game XMB feature amongst other things…

  • Sony’s currently going through PS3’s library to check whether or not in-game XMB’s full compatible. While it’s expected that the the new menu system, in-game messaging, and so forth, will work with virtually all games, for a minority of titles the current black menu screen will be retained. It’s not known yet which games, if any, won’t be able to use in-game XMB.
  • The user-music functionality is only included in the new development tools, which have now gone out to coders. This means that existing games won’t support it unless they’re patched. That’s right: you won’t be able to play GTA IV with your own music unless Rockstar updates the game, if what we’ve been told this morning is true.
  • Same for Trophies. They tools required to add these are only just in the hands of developers, which means it’s going to be some time before you see the feature appear in a major game.
  • Some aspects of the XMB, such as the photo viewer, won’t be available in-game after the 2.40 Firmware update. If you select these features in-game, you’ll be asked if you want to drop out of your game to access them.

Boys just want to have fun!

This has to be one of the funniest video game related pieces of news ever… And Kids wonder why their parents won’t let them play GTA. Well, now we know…

A 13 year old from Texas who stole his Dad’s credit card and ordered two hookers from an escort agency, has today been convicted of fraud and given a three year community order.

Ralph Hardy, a 13 year old from Newark, Texas confessed to ordering an extra credit card from his father’s existing credit card company, and took his friends on a $30,000 spending spree, culminating in playing “Halo” on an Xbox with a couple of hookers in a Texas motel.

Asked why he ordered two escorts, Ralph said he thought it was the thing to do when you win a “World of Warcraft” tournament. They told the suspicious working girls they were people of restricted growth working with a traveling circus, and as State law does not allow those with disabilities to be discriminated against they had no right to refuse them.

The $1,000 a night girls sensing something up played “Halo” on the Xbox with the kids, instead of selling their sexual services.

Ralph’s ambition is to one day become a politician.

(Ed: What have we learned from this? Don’t let your kid order credit cards in your name, dipshit!)

HAZE Demo Released

That’s right you heard it here first (well maybe not but we like to think so) a HAZE demo has just hit the European PSN Store. From what we’ve read it is currently only available on the European PSN store(s) and it just happens to feature 4 player Co-op…This totally took us by surprise and we are guessing that, from the sounds of laughter we’re hearing from the Sony fanboys that this took them by surprise also. The demo weighs in at a hefty 1GB download so we haven’t had a chance to playtest it yet. What are you waiting for? Head over to the PSN Store and start downloading.

Watch this space for our impressions. In the meantime, try it out and drop us a comment

Metal Gear Online: Beta than I expected?

I would like to apologise for the title but I just couldn’t resist…

I have never played any of the other Metal Gear games online before so I cannot really compare this to the other Metal Gear online experiences. However, from my several hours of gameplay with it so far, I can say that it is everything you would want from the Metal Gear series piled into one neat little package…

It may sound like I am being a little one-sided, but just so you know that I am not, here is a nice list detailing the pro’s and con’s of what I have experienced so far:

Happy St Georges Day

That’s right today is the day we remember St George, the dragon-slaying badass…

To commemorate the day, I was going to play Lair. But as I do not own that game I will be doing my own dragon-slaying releated activities like pretending to slay invisible dragons with my crutches…

I have told you what I will be doing today so I would like to know what crazy shenanigan’s you have planned for today…

Whatever you are doing have a good day,

From all of us at gameonyou.co.uk..

Happy dragon-slaying!!

There’s no wait like Home: open beta delayed again…

Do you remember a time when release dates actually meant something?

Nope, me neither…

I don’t think I can actually remember Home having an official release date but I do know that Sony is one to make exaggerated claims. This time around, Sony has released a statement detailing that Home won’t be open to public beta testing until some time this Autumn. Here is what they had to say:

Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) announced today that it will expand the Closed Beta testing for PLAYSTATION®Home in Summer 2008, inviting a further number of registrants from the PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3®) users. Following completion of the Expanded Closed Beta test, the PLAYSTATION Home Open Beta service will commence in Fall 2008.

European-only Crisis Core Special Editon announced…

While this may not be breaking news (or even news to some people) many have probably not heard that Square-Enix have announced a European-only pre-order special edition of their highly anticipated Prequel Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core which includes a “Super Hard Mode” and a hardback artwork book which features 48 pages of character-designy goodness by Final Fantasy artist Tetsuya Nomura.

This European-only pre-order special edition is starting to sound like a must-have for any Final Fantasy fan but I’m left wondering whether it’s really worth waiting ’til June for this game. Perhaps it may be better to simply import it from the US for a cheaper price with the added bonus of being able to play it months before it is released over here in sunny ol’ Britain!.

This special edition is only available if you pre-order the game. What are you waiting for? Head on over to the Official Crisis Core Site for info on where you can get your hands on this elusive offer.

Ed: Dave is currently playing the game and will post his impressions when he manages to stop reading magazines and starts working.
