In-game XMB in two days!

Dave Barlow | June 30, 2008

del.icio.us Digg Facebook StumbleUpon

Sean’s currently in the throes of a Sonygasm, otherwise he would’ve posted this himself. Instead of not-so-subtly jabbing him in his fanboy ribs amidst details of the 2.40 update, I’ll just let this lovely young gentleman tell what the craic is:

Here are some videos of it in action. Look how fun!

IGN also have a hands-on preview of the game, so get over there and read you some words!

“Oh won’t you please date me?” - Home

Dave Barlow | May 9, 2008

del.icio.us Digg Facebook StumbleUpon

For those of you who may not have heard of PlayStation Home yet (it seems to have made much more noise over in the US than it has here in the UK), here is a lengthy video of someone customising their character, running about and generally faffing in the beta.

Imagine this, but with more people faffing about with you. We here at GoYUK Towers are always looking for ways to “get our game on” with our fellow human beings, so we’re pretty excited about what Home might bring to the table in terms of player interaction and immersion. Expect Xbox Live with an avatar, and a lot more potential. Imagine playing Crazy Golf with your avatar then inviting someone over to your virtual house for a whack on your virtual PS1.

Either way, we guarantee that Home will get a mention at E3 this year - hopefully a definite release date too!

Preview: Bourne Conspiracy Demo

Daniel Mitchell | May 6, 2008

del.icio.us Digg Facebook StumbleUpon

Grab your tin-foil hats people, A conspiracy has landed on Xbox Live Marketplace (and soon on PSN too) but they don’t want us to talk about it. Who doesn’t want us to talk about it? Can’t say - what if you’re one of them? Well we’re gonna talk about it anyway, sod ‘em. The top-secret information held within this document is regarding The Bourne Conspiracy Demo - currently available only to our overseas friends (Australia, New Zealand, India and North America - they’re all plotting against us) but we’ve managed to access the demo ourselves via subterfuge, suits and Ray-Bans.

We are talking about the public demo to The Bourne Conspiracy, the upcoming game from developer, High Moon Studios (Sierra owned studio), creators of Darkwatch for the PS2. The Bourne Conspiracy follows the events of the first three films, with many scenes re-imagined to render them more suitable for the medium of a video-game. If this approach is successful then hopefully more developers will follow in the footsteps when creating a licensed game. The Demo contains 3 levels, which is an early sign that this is going to be quite a meaty game…

Metal Gear Online: Beta than I expected?

Sean Millar | April 28, 2008

del.icio.us Digg Facebook StumbleUpon

I would like to apologise for the title but I just couldn’t resist…

I have never played any of the other Metal Gear games online before so I cannot really compare this to the other Metal Gear online experiences. However, from my several hours of gameplay with it so far, I can say that it is everything you would want from the Metal Gear series piled into one neat little package…

It may sound like I am being a little one-sided, but just so you know that I am not, here is a nice list detailing the pro’s and con’s of what I have experienced so far:

Two Metal Gear Stories for the Price of One!

kPod | April 23, 2008

del.icio.us Digg Facebook StumbleUpon

mg rexOne’s old one’s new, nothing’s borrowed and my socks are blue. K?

The Old story is that the restart date for Metal Gear Online has been set as this Friday (April 25th). Whether it’s midnight as on Thursday/Friday, or midnight on Friday/Saturday, though, is anyone’s guess.

The New story is that the BBFC has said that there are implied scenes of child rape on Metal Gear Solid 4. Yeah, now I’m worried what’s going on in Hideo Kojima’s mind. Maybe it was just the BBFC doing it wrong?

I hope so. (SPOILER ALERT methinks)

Regardless, I’m going to buy it, and I’m going to buy the other games (MGS2 + 3, I already have the original) and play them all, in order, from start to finish. Thank God I’ll have the money by then. Chances are I’ll just buy up to 3 first, THEN get the PS3 with MGS4.

Note for you Sony: Even after buying MGS 1-3 on the Playstation2, I’d still buy a collection that was PS4 (ALL THESE NUMBERS. Dx!) PS3 compatible. Think about it.

del.icio.us Digg Facebook StumbleUpon

alone in the darkThe Limited Edition of Alone in the Dark has been revealed, and it has some surprisingly juicy stuff. It includes:

  • Alone in the Dark game, one of the most anticipated games of the year;
  • Figurine of the game’s legendary hero, Edward Carnby;
  • Official Soundtrack CD featuring 8 in-game tracks of original music by Olivier Derivière and performed by Grammy® Award-winning choir The Mystery of Bulgarian Voices;
  • Full colour, bound art book featuring never before seen production sketches, storyboards and original artwork from Eden Games;
  • ‘Making Of’ documentary feature DVD with exclusive interviews, behind the scenes footage and additional bonus content.

And the box looks awesome too. Despite the picture, it’s for all three platforms, not just 360.

GameOnYou UK Presents… The GTA IV Super Mega Awesome Ultra Round-Up (Spoiler Free!)

Daniel Mitchell |

del.icio.us Digg Facebook StumbleUpon

Non-diet on purpose to

By Dave Barlow and Daniel Mitchell

Hello gamers. You may or may not have realised that something rather large is happening in the gaming industry in the next week or so. Something which is likely to define this generation of technology and set the bar for every developer out there. That large thing is called GTA 4 and it’s landing on Xbox 360 and PS3 on 29th April. Did you care to preorder this phenomenon? If not then you are, to put it simply, Screwed!

Don’t worry, If you still want to get it on release then there is still one hope… the Collector’s Edition. Although you have to bear in mind that you’d be shelling out a pretty hefty sum (£69.99) and it’ll probably be in stock within the next week or so (if you seriously think you can wait that long).

Anyway, this feature isn’t about whether you’ve pre-ordered GTA4 or not, it’s aimed at all of you (pre-ordered or not) who are hugely anticipating the game. Those who want to savour every last juicy morsel of information released before it’s monstrous launch. This is a round up of all the essential info released, from launch to present; rumours, reviews, previews and finally our own individual opinions on the upcoming ground-breaking game.

Before we start let us quickly walk you through the premise. In GTA4 you play as Eastern European Niko Bellic, who recently moved to America to start a new life after much coercing by his cousin Roman. His cousin fibbed that he was living ‘The American Dream” and that he was rich, when in fact he’s in pretty serious debt some very powerful people. He wants you to come and work for his taxi company to help him pay off his loans. Niko has committed some heinous crimes in his past but he’s prepared to put all that behind him. After he learns of Roman’s deception he throws all that away and vows to become top dog in the gritty, criminal world of Liberty City. Rockstar put it quite well themselves in the trailer below…

Without further ado, LET THE FEATURE BEGIN!

MGO Beta? Where is this Beta you speak of?

kPod | April 21, 2008

del.icio.us Digg Facebook StumbleUpon

metal gear onlineKonami have really underestimated the amount of people that would be trying the Metal Gear Online Beta out for them, and as such have decided that the best thing to do would be to turn the entire thing off, recalibrate, get it right this time (for they were indeed, doing it wrong), and release as and when. They say that they will make an announcement for the restart date tomorrow.

Because of this, the Beta will now close on May 11th, instead of May 6th. And in addition, both the US and Europe territories will have identical start and end dates. So long as they don’t stick us both on the same server; that would be pandemonium.

Video Friday

Dave Barlow | April 18, 2008

del.icio.us Digg Facebook StumbleUpon

Shock News! Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway still exists IGN have posted a couple of new videos (see below) and written a preview of the game I was most excited about after last year’s E3.

Destructible environments, squad-based WWII tactics, great AI - BiA: HH topped my Wanted list, beating off the likes of Crysis and Call of Duty 4.

And finally, a look back at the greatest show to have ever graced television. It needs no introduction, so some might call me a fool for giving it one. Here it is, the show that spawned a thousand gamers…
